Horror-thrillers that will keep you on your feet

Looking for some heebie-jeebies or nail-biting and gruelling content to watch? We got you a list of horror-thrillers to watch on Netflix. These are sure to enthrall and scare you at the same time.

Did you know that watching horror movies can burn calories, help reduce depressive thoughts and boost your immune system? Thrillers on the other hand can keep people alert and are known to be incredibly stimulating. So here are some movie recommendations on Netflix around these two genres.

1. The Conjuring Universe

Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), The Conjuring has its own universe. The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Annabelle, Annabelle Creation and Annabelle Comes Home are all a part of the same universe which is a prequel to The Conjuring. While The Nun and The Crooked Man (in development) are spin offs from The Conjuring 2, The Curse of La Llorona (The Curse of the Weeping Woman) is a standalone, sixth instalment in the Conjuring Universe. There is also an untitled The Nun sequel in the making. Needless to say, all these movies keep you continually on the edge. James Wan and company will surely keep you agitated throughout. A word of caution - it is better to not attempt these movies back-to-back.

Streaming on: Various OTT (TBH, it is scattered, but most of them are on Netflix)

2. Insidious series

There are four films in the Insidious franchise - Insidious (2010), Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), and Insidious: The Last Key (2018). These are also made by James Wan and other directors. These movies are packed with horror, demonologists, astral plane connections and jumpy scenes. The Lamberts are common to the storyline in most films and Elise Rainer plays a pivotal role throughout. We hear there is another film in the works under the franchise.

Streaming on: Netflix and Disney+Hotstar

3. Fear Street Trilogy

Directed by Leigh Janiak and based on R L Stine’s books of the same name, Fear Street Trilogy is all about a bunch of teenagers breaking the curse which has been running for hundreds of years in their town? Sounds easy? Well, it isn’t. The movies were shot back-to-back, so the continuity is great. Each film connects to the next and along the way, screams and jumps (duh, it is called Fear Street, guys) are bound to emerge. The films are titled Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, and yes, it is in reverse. All of them have received positive reviews.

Streaming on: Netflix

4. Gerald’s Game

An adaptation of Stephen King’s 1992 novel, this is a horror-thriller directed and edited by Mike Flanagan. The story line is very intriguing and you might just find yourself speaking up about what Jessie should be doing next. Even Stephen King lauded the movie after watching the rough cut. Carla Gugino’s apt portrayal of Jessie Burlingame makes it worth a watch. There are some moments in the movie where you may want to turn your face away from the screen. But overall, the movie is fantastic.

Streaming on: Netflix

We are not done with the recommendations yet. If you are a fan of the genre and wish to binge more then what we have listed, In The Tall Grass, Don’t Breathe, IT series, The Maid, Cabin in the Woods, Orphan, Oculus, Apostle and Creep Series can be added to your watchlist.
