Innovation & Empowerment in Rural Rajasthan

Discover how eco-friendly bamboo sanitary pads are revolutionizing women's health and livelihoods in rural Rajasthan, promoting sustainability and self-sufficiency.

Innovation & Empowerment in Rural Rajasthan

MeraPad is a significant and commendable initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and economic empowerment for women in rural areas.

It not only addresses the need for safe, reusable sanitary products but also creates job opportunities for women and helps in reducing the environmental impact of disposable sanitary products.

The use of bamboo charcoal in the pads makes them naturally bacterial-resistant, and the washable nature means they can be used repeatedly, offering an economical and eco-friendly solution.

Praveen Lata Sansthan, the NGO behind this project, appears to have not only engaged in the production and distribution of these pads but also in educating and sensitizing women about menstrual hygiene.

This, coupled with efforts to provide livelihood opportunities during the pandemic, is an inspiring example of social entrepreneurship.

According to the non-profit Praveen Lata Sansthan, as of March 31, 2022, the use of MeraPad has saved 1,785 tonnes of sanitary towel plastics from reaching landfill.
