Mumbai Made a Mistake. The Flamingos Loved It

Mumbai's flamingos — the city didn't invite them. It polluted its way into becoming their favourite restaurant. As Mumbai grew through the 1970s and 80s, untreated sewage flowed into Thane Creek, nurturing the algae that lesser flamingos feed on. The birds noticed. And then they kept coming back. The trail around TS Chanakya in Navi Mumbai a maritime college on the creek's edge where flamingo-themed murals line the walking path and the boardwalk at the end. No boats. No entry fee.
